They consider our food products to be low quality , full of chemicals, sugar and salt. They won’t eat it and we shouldn’t be either.
Our appliances do not match the quality of their machines. I don’t even buy American made appliances here in the US because of quality issues. And they don’t even buy clothes driers there in any big numbers. So we aren’t selling a lot of those.
Our cars are too big for their roads and use way too much gas. Which is very expensive there. Plus they don’t match the quality of some European cars and certainly not the driving experience of European cars. Not to mention that they cost too much. The value isn’t there for them.
I can’t think of a single industrial item were our products either meet their requirements or their quality. And we make no effort to correct that because we simply “believe” everything American is the best, and we don’t have to.
Snd I’m talking big ticket manufactured items. Not the little things. We build a lot of good product in small business form.

Canadian here. We limit imports of food products from the U.S. unless they meet out safety and health standards. Sadly, the U.S has far less regulations and consumer protections, so their products are often rejected by other countries.
U.S. meat and dairy products often contain too many hormones, additives and preservatives like nitrates which are harmful to human health. I am reading a book by Johan Hari about loss loss drugs and the chapter about processed foods in America was disgusting. The stuff that is added to processed foods and the physiological impact they have on the human body blew my mind. The scientific studies of processed foods high in sugars and carbs on rats were scary. The human studies were terrifying. The additives are SO unhealthy- they permanently change your gut biome to create cravings that lead to obesity.
Tesla cybertrucks passed U.S. safety regulations and were put on the market, despite a raft of inherent safety issues, including the fact that some of the exterior body panels are simply glued on. Next time you see a cybertruck on the road, imagine that large back panel falling off and hurtling across the road at you. Over time, the glue experiences “environmental embrittlement” * and the panel falls off onto the road, creating a big safety hazard for other vehicles on the road.
*The embrittlement euphemism simply means that the glue dried out and no longer held.
And now that so many American regulating bodies have been dismantled by doge, Amercian products may become far less safe than ever before. Countries which maintain certain health and safety standards simply will not allow them to be imported.

I’m going to ignore most goods and foods in this answer and concentrate on cars. Aside from most being banned for failing to meet our crash standards, particularly pedestrian safety, most US cars are simply too big for our roads and parking.
I drive a large SUV and I struggle at times, yet my large US constructed European (German) SUV (I will let you connect the dots) is not as large as most US vehicles.
So if we are talking about something smaller like a Chevy car, it’ll fail safety standards, not to mention having inferior build quality, softer ride, less performance and a gas guzzler, that simply doesn't appeal to the European buyer.
If we are talking about larger cars, attached is a picture of a lane near me that is relatively common in the country. Try getting a car and an F150 to pass on this road, even in specific passing zones.

ou don’t make or grow many products that Europeans want to buy, and the ones that you *do* do really well, such as oranges, we can get more locally. Your cars are too big and most are considered too low-quality. Much of your food isn’t even legal here, or is simply not up to standard.
Two things you do seem to do really well and that aren’t readily available here are small but really stylish, Art Deco-ish kitchen appliances, and crafting supplies (yes, we have crafting supplies, but not as many and varied as in the US). Once you get rid of Trump and Musk and stop being seen as an enemy nation, I suggest going all out on marketing those. And Californian wines already sell well.

Ford is actually the UKs most popular car brand with just under 10% market share. It’s the small cars like the Fiesta and Focus.
Europe makes its own cars: the Germans, French and Swedes. And the UK especially Landrover (owned by Tata) and bespoke smaller companies like Morgan. So there is lots of choice. I haven’t even mentioned Japanese cars.
Trade doesn’t work how Trump thinks it does. We buy a million of your cars and you buy a million of our cars. People choose what to buy and I should think that even if tariffs in the UK on US cars are lowered or dropped, it won’t make the slightest bit of difference.

In 1970, economist Milton Friedman wrote an Op-Ed in the New York Times about how CEOs had a social responsibility to maximize profits for shareholders. It changed American business. Over the course of the next 30 or 40 years, businesses abandoned trying to be the best and focused only on maximizing profit, usually by cutting costs everywhere they could.
Europeans don’t think like this. Across the countless cultures in Europe none of them would be happy intentionally making garbage just to increase profits. They understand how to make money and how to be ruthless. We’re still talking about Capitalism. But no one would choose to produce a bad product for $1 billion instead of a better product for $999 million. That’s all America does, and Europeans find it gross. That’s why they don’t buy our crap.

It wasn’t to do with the products being American. (It wasn’t)
It used to be due to the products not being suited to the needs of Europeans. (It used to be)

The one item I keep hearing as a stick to beat Europeans with, are cars. The majority of American vehicles are rather large and prone to drinking fuel as if it wasn’t a finite resource.
Their size prohibits their easy use around most European towns and cities, since most of those towns and cities have been around long before the American continent was titled as such. Very narrow and twisting roads.
Some of the countries of Europe are smaller than certain states of the USA and so overly large vehicles burning fuel to get to the nearest McD’s is unnecessary and costly.
And it has been mentioned a thousand times before, but our food standards do not match those of the States. I assume that if the food produced in the States was brought up to the level we expect, it would be added to the welcome imports but, the welfare of the animal and the processing of the meat must fall into line with the consumer’s needs, not the other way round.
If you walk into a shop and see nothing particular to your taste, you turn around and walk out. Most shop owners will then consider their products and amend where necessary. Sadly, the owner of the Shop Of American has seen fit to charge customers for not shopping with them instead.
This wont increase purchases. If anything it will mean that even available products will be dismissed because putting money into the pockets of tyrants isn’t the way to run an economy.

Some American products are banned in Europe because they do not meet our standards.
Others can be sold but are just not popular because they are designed for American consumers. European consumers are often completely different and cannot be bullied into buying things they dislike or that don't work very well here.
There is another thing now though: American products are associated with a new, nasty version of America and are not cool. I'm not just talking about Teslas, but there is a movement to avoid all American stuff even if they don't fall foul of the first two points. Tbh, there is no need to buy Levis or Coke etc because there are non-American alternatives. I have noticed this by talking to young people. They just sort of sigh and say "Yeah, I'll still buy a new iPhone when I have to but other than that I'll avoid all the US brands for now". It's not a big hate, but it's something I've never seen before.

Everyone keeps asking why Europeans don't buy American products. Or perhaps the question needs to be reversed? Why don't Americans sell their products in Europe?
Perhaps Europeans would like to buy something American, but how do they do it? During my travels to America, I have seen many products that are absent in Europe. Perhaps their manufacturers should answer why they are not interested in the European market? The customs barriers for American products are no greater than for Japanese, Chinese or other countries' goods. In 1978 I bought a Marantz ampli tuner made in the USA. And where is that brand made now? In 2008, I wanted to buy a Hummer. But it turned out that my garage was too small and also its fuel consumption was, by European standards, "extravagant". Instead, I bought a Chevrolet, but made in Korea.

Except for high technology stuff, systems mainly not sold to end users, US products have crap quality. Looking at cars, trucks, they are decades behind EU and Asian quality, why? Actually because US protect their domestic market with tariffs. Yet US buy Asian and EU cars, they cost but they also last. US producers lack incitament to improve since domestically their product are cheap, US costumers are loyal to some extent, outside US the combination of price and quality triumphs.
Food, US is fed crap that is not defined as food outside US. Keep your ultra processed crap for yourself, sorry that came out wrong. You can’t sell it abroad because we don’t define it as food and hence it is too unhealthy to eat. We value good quality, good base for good food. From candy, chocolate, cheese, meet. Did you know that many of the cheese you buy and eat are not cheese, your cheddar is just some chemical crap. Compare the label of European cheese and US. You would be amazed what you are eating. Soda, just compare a European 7up, Fanta or even Cola, it is not the same product because we do not allow the chemicals in US processed food to be consumed as such in Europe.
